Fun with ice cubes

Being home on Christmas break the past two weeks has given me a glimpse into the joys and challenges of staying home with Jack, now that he's much older. He can do so much more and is way more aware of his surroundings than we give him credit for. He's turning more into a toddler every day. He talks, tries to express his feelings, and is able to get my attention frequently with a very loud, "Mama, Mama!" So you can guess that the challenges include keeping his spongy brain going at all times.

My father- and mother-in-law gave me a toddler book for Christmast htat I'm already finding so useful! It's packed full of simple activities that toddlers LOVE to do. I've only looked through part of the book and have found well over 20 ideas that use simple, inexpensive materials.

One of the activities we tried involved colored ice cubes. You make red, blue, and yellow ice cubes using food coloring. Put a few of them in the bag and let them play! A word of advice: double bag the ice cubes and TAPE the seal shut! :) Jack played for about 20 minutes, which is a long time for him!

What a great idea! I'll have to get that book. Thanks for sharing it with us!

I will definitely be keeping that book in mind for down the road! I totally understand the taping of the bag. My kinders made colored noodles for necklaces and the food coloring was everywhere as they were shaking. LOL!
