As those close to me know, I'm not much for blood or wounds. In fact, embarassing as it may be, I passed out once while having my blood drawn. I'll try to justify myself by saying they took FIVE vials to do my initial pregnancy screening! And so the last two weeks have been just about enough for me. Two ER visits both involving blood is a lot for one mama to handle.
So the ER trip makes a little bit of sense.... here's what has happened in the past week. The spot on Jack's face has gotten much, much bigger and has started bleeding more often. So we got the name of a plastic surgeon and went in to see him on Thursday. Turns out he doesn't have hemangioma, but has pyogenic granuloma instead. (I had to have the doctor write that down for me). It's something that has to be removed by surgery.
At that point I felt a little relief in knowing what it was and what needs to be done to fix it. That is, until the plastic surgeon said he had to write a letter to the insurance company to get prior authorization. That would take 4-6 weeks!!!! And what do we do in the meantime? Keep a bandage on it and apply pressure when it bleeds. Annoying, but we'd do what he have to do.
That is, until today. I got a call from our daycare provider that Jack was bleeding again and had been bleeding for 30 minutes. She sounded panicky and frazzled because she had kids in the background screaming as she had been trying to apply pressure for the last half hour. I left immediately and picked him up. His shirt (which I spared you the picture of) was soaked with blood on the top 1/3 around the neck. He even smelled of blood. Gross.
And so we went to the ER. It was a frustrating visit. The doctors seemed to act a bit confused as to why we were there since the bleeding had stopped. I brought the shirt as evidence and that helped some. But they put a little silver nitrate on it to help with bleeding, covered it with a secure bandage, and told us to see the plastic surgeon again on Monday. And so we're no closer to a solution than we were before. My poor baby boy has an icky red bump on his face, has a semi-permanent bandage on his face and we won't know more until Monday. I really hope we don't have to wait 6 more weeks....

oh no, i hope you find out sooner then later. HUGS!
Goodness. I hope they can give you some answers quickly...for everyone's sake.
Arrgghh! I can feel your mommy frustration. Hang in there. I hope they can push the insurance co. to get some answers more quickly. The wait is no fun, ever. In the meantime, I guess you should stock up on ice cream. You'll all probably need extra!
