The Hurricane of '08

We survived the "hurricane" (80-90 mph straight-line winds) and unlike many other people in the area, we had minimal damage. The storm came up quick - I was on the phone with my mom when I heard the storm siren going off. It wasn't a tornado warning, but a really bad storm coming our way. I watched it closely because Jack was napping. If I didn't have to wake him up, I wasn't going to. But then the power went out and in a second, the winds picked up and it started hailing. The trees were completely bent over, so I ran in and grabbed Jack and headed to the basement. After the storm was over, I took pictures of the piles of hail. There was still some hail left the next day.

Although my flowers got hit hard, we had minimal damage to our house. We had some siding chipped off and hail marks on our fence, but nothing compared to this. Click on pictures to see more damage in Omaha. We didn't have power until 7 am the next morning, but there are still some people without power now (Sunday), so we'll count our lucky stars.

Here's my sweet little Jack after being stirred from his peaceful nap to hide in the basement. He watched at the window for the longest time as everyone was picking up trees and the kids were playing in their yards.

In other news, Bryan has been having a great few weeks in his new position. You can check out some of his articles here and here.

Oh, and I'm sick of the fireworks already. The 4th of July takes on a whole new meaning when people are shooting off fireworks on Saturday, June 28th. Uuugh.

Glad to hear you're all OK and that Jack weathered the storm so well!

We get a lot of early fireworks here, too, and they drive me insane!

I'm so glad you are all OK and were able to escape any major damages. I watched the storm coverage live online and was amazed at what was happening.

And the fireworks? I'm totally with you. Our neighbors were still shooting them off at 11:45 the other night!

Holy cow! Thank goodness everything turned out okay, and no one was hurt.

And why do people let off fireworks early? Don't they know that babies are SLEEPING?

I also hate fireworks. There were even some tonight.
