My heart is in Iowa

There has been a lot happening in Iowa lately and it's led me to think about my home state. Bryan and I both grew up in north central Iowa in a rural part of the state. We both went to college at UNI (where we met) and lived there for the first few years we were married.

We moved to Omaha about 4 years ago. We didn't leave because we disliked Iowa. We left because we weren't happy with our current states in life (jobs, location, etc...) We were looking for something different. Every once in awhile, we talk about moving back to Iowa.

When I was a kid and was traveling to a different state, I was almost ashamed to say I was from Iowa. "The potato state?" was the usual response. "No, that's Idaho." I was even asked once if we had running water there. (I believe that was when I was visiting San Antonio, but I could be wrong). After moving away from Iowa, I realize what a great state it is. It's a bit more progressive and open-minded and even has a bit of a different feel.

So to everyone in Cedar Falls, Waterloo, Parkersburg, Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, and countless other places that have been hit by the nasty weather and flooding, hang in there.

To lift your spirits, check out the video of Jack. Good stuff!

That video is too cute. My girls sometimes talk to each other like that!

I was really glad that I got the camera out fast enough! It's pretty much a classic.

I wonder why Livermore's not on the map? :)

I know, Chris. Even though we didn't live in Waterloo for even a year, it's still a part of our lives, and it's so hard and crazy to think about all those people whose lives are being so affected right now.

My husband and I have taken a few vacations in Iowa and I agree completely, there is a different feel there. It's really nice and we even talked about moving there before finding our current home.
