But Tuesday evening was TOO much! (By the way, I was planning on posting this much earlier, but the inclement weather slowed me down).
Let me tell you about Tuesday... Jack went to daycare Tuesday and Wednesday because I was at a conference in Lincoln. Tuesday evening was one thing after another... It started with me picking him up from daycare. When I got there, the door was locked. Weird. I figured it was one of the toddlers who accidentally flipped the lock. So I knocked lightly. No answer. I rang the doorbell. No answer. I called from my cell phone. No answer.
At that point, I was really confused. So I peeked over the back fence to see if they were outside. Nobody was in sight. I was beginning to wonder what was going on. So I called one of our caregivers' cell phones. They were on a walk and were just about back. Okay, no big deal. But when they got back, I noticed Jack looked like a grease monkey - hence the picture above. They didn't have his hat, so they put sunscreen in his hair. Good idea, but he was greasy!!!
When we got home, there was a torn up WET diaper all over the floor. Our very naughty dog whom I left out of the kennel for 20 minutes had torn it up. I guess it was put in our bathroom garbage by a friend and I never noticed it. Oops.
So after the diaper was cleaned up, I fed the dogs, let them out, and we started eating ourselves when the doorbell rang. It was the neighbor girl from across the street. She said our dogs just ran down the street because he brother and her friends had gotten into our back yard to retrieve a ball. Apparently the gate didn't get locked. So as they drove around looking, our next door neighbor played with Jack and watched for the dogs outside. I drove around. After about 45 minutes and panic beginning to set in, two girls were walking up the hill with our dogs on leashes. They got across a busy road (thank goodness they weren't hurt) and were following the girls on the trail as they were walking their dog.
I should add that as I was driving around, I remembered that the phone number on the tags was not correct. Nice. So I'm glad they didn't get too far before someone found them and was able to walk them to our house. I was so very thankful!!
I enjoyed a nice beer that night before going to bed and even though I was pretty sure, nothing else could happen, it did. My cell phone rang at about 1:30. I could hear Bryan's muffled voice talking and the words "accident or crashing (I'm not sure which one), one block, okay." Then the phone hung up. Since he rode his bike, I had a million scary thoughts running through my head. I immediately called him back and he cheerily said, "What are you doing up?"
I immediately asked if he was okay and said, "You called me!!!!" He was fine and had just accidentally called me through his bag. At first he didn't believe me until I repeated back what he was talking about. After the pumping of adrenaline, I fell back asleep and Wednesday was a much better day.
Thanks for reading this obnoxiously long post.
More pics of Jack here.

Holy moly what a day! Dogs getting out is the scariest thing. You just hope that a car won't hit them or they get picked up by evil people. And Bryan should know not to pocket call you a 1:30am. I mean, seriously, what was he thinking? When I had a cell phone with a camera, I got many "pocket shots" that I'd have to delete all the time. Nothing like all your phone memory being taken up by pics of darkness.
Thanks for backing me up! I made sure and punched him in the arm when he got home for that little stunt! :)
Ahhh, I hope you went with the Sam Adams Hefeweizen...it can definitely help on a day like that. I just enjoyed one earlier in the week. Glad it all ended well!
I actually went with Sam Adams Summer Ale, but I am a huge fan of the Hefeweizen!
Well, I suppose those days are meant to teach us something, aren't they? Or at least give us some sort of perspective ... on something.
Glad it's over!
And I'd have totally had two beers.
(Thanks, btw, for leaving a comment for my sister. ;) )
No problem! I enjoy reading her blog.
Although, I did find it humorous how she reacted to my comment! :)
