Take the walk

Bryan took the day off on Friday and we headed back home to Humboldt and Algona to visit our families. It was a short, but enjoyable trip. On our visit, we went to the nature center that Bryan's mom has spent countless hours helping with. We went on a short hike near Smith Lake before visiting the nature center. Bryan took some pretty neat pictures of the trees and wildlife.

Then we came back home on Sunday to start preparing for our Memorial Day bash. We invited our closest friends to hang with us on Monday night. Because we had been gone all weekend, it seemed like a lot of work to clean, cook, and watch Jack at the same time. But it was worth it! Bryan smoked pork and made beans on the smoker too. Both were quite yummy!

We threw the get-together to celebrate the beginning of summer and my "graduation" from Doane College with my Master's Degree. I finished last summer, but I was 8 months pregnant and didn't feel like partying. So last night was the party.

However, I feel like I'm still missing something. I decided not to walk through the ceremony because Doane's main campus is in Crete. Crete is southeast from Lincoln (I believe). I have never actually been there. And so with no ceremony, I have not actually "graduated."

I missed my chance to walk and now I somewhat regret it. Although the time with friends was great yesterday evening, I should have walked. Such is life.

More pics from the weekend here.

Belated congratulations on the Master's degree, Chris. Thanks for having us over to celebrate this and Bryan's b-day. It was nice meeting all of your friends.

I didn't hold back as I enjoyed three helpings of the pork sandwich.

I'm a bit behind in reading your blog (sorry!), but yes, thanks so much for having us over. It was really nice to meet everyone and to hang out with all of you.

Dane and I are thinking of having a similar soiree in July. Stay tuned ...
