I had planned on writing a new post about my goal and biking plan today anyway. Now I also get to explain the pain I had in my knee this morning.
A few weeks ago, I decided I needed a fitness goal. I was getting bored of the gym and wimpy 30 minute workouts. So my goal... to do the time trial during the Dave Babcook weekend in Omaha. Yikes! I'm a bit terrified, but also excited for the challenge. I'm a new member to Team Kaos, although it's weird saying that when I'm completely out of shape. Ha.
Bryan helped me make a workout plan to get ready for the time trial on July 12th. My plan doesn't actually start until tomorrow, but I decided to get up early and ride today. In order for both Bryan and I to get our riding in, I have to get up early (5:30) and ride before Jack gets up for the day. I found that it was nice and peaceful on the roads this morning though.
I rode for about 80 minutes in a nice steady pace. I haven't been on my bike much since Jack was born, so I made this my "reintroduction to the bike" workout. But in the last 20 minutes of the ride, my left knee was killing me. It was so bad that going up small inclines I was pedaling with nearly all right leg. It started with what felt like a muscle cramp near the inside of my knee. Then it turned into sharp pain. I'm icing and taking ibuprofen. So hopefully it'll be better so I can actually start my training plan tomorrow!

What works for me, but probably won't for you because of Jack: double up the ibuprofen and Aleve. They're different kinds of drugs, so you can technically take them together. If it doesn't make you numb, it'll probably help. Maybe.
Yeah, I don't think I can do that now with Jack. But I'll remember that for future knee problems. I know there will be more! Ha.
