A little of this & a little of that (part 4)

I've been in a blogging funk lately. Not sure why. So I'm going with a random thoughts post today.

* Holidays that were never that big of a deal for us are so much more exciting with Jack around. Like the 4th of July. We've never over the top about the 4th, but this year, we wore patriotic colors, enjoyed ice cream, family time, and even stayed up late to watch the fireworks. There's something wonderful about watching his little face light up with excitement!

* Right around the 4th of July is the BEST time to shop. We found out this little secret that I'm sharing with you (you're welcome) last 4th of July. My parents were in town and volunteered to watch Jack so we could do some shopping. We were just happy to go by ourselves because we hadn't been shopping in awhile. We went to the GAP and hit the mother load! We spent over one hundred dollars (which is a lot for us) and got an amazing amount of clothes.
We went back again this year and sure enough - a great deal! We didn't spend quite as much, but still got two pairs of jeans and two shirts for $40. Yeah!

* Speaking of shopping... We went to Wal-Mart today to pick up some groceries. Bryan spotted the $3 bin of DVDs and we picked up a couple of them. When checking out, I got carded because we were buying a rated R movie. That's right - I'm going to be 30 in August and I got carded for a rated R movie. I stood there speechless for a moment after the lady said, "I should probably see your ID." I laughed and pulled it out. I think she was a bit embarassed after she saw the date.

* I'm getting sad that summer is almost over. I start teaching summer school in about a week. I was really excited about the opportunity last spring, but now that I've been home all summer being a full-time mom, I REALLY don't want to go back. But I keep trying to remind myself that it's only part-time, so I'll still have time at home.

* Right before the 4th, Jack and I made a trip back home to visit my good friend, Katie. She traveled from Virginia back to Iowa for her brother's wedding. It was so good to see her again and to meet her baby girl. I wish we didn't live so far apart.

To go along with the random thoughts are some random pictures:

Enjoying the nice weather and playing with water on the deck. If I haven't mentioned it before, Jack LOVES the water. We hope to make it to the pool several more times before the end of summer.

Pictures from our trip back home. Grandpa Chuck got out a tricycle for Jack to ride. He's a little too short still. But he liked it just the same! And Grandma Renee suggested play time in the big box from their new washing machine. It made a great fort.

Jack sitting with Bryan on the couch and anticipating the Sesame Street gang on tv. Part of our 4th of July festivities was to watch the fireworks show on tv from the Capitol. He really only watched the 10 minutes that involved Big Bird, Elmo, Oscar, and Cookie Monster. What a funny little boy!

Cute pics! It seems crazy for you to say your summer is almost over when mine has only just begun. I have only been out of school for two weeks! LOL! ;) I hope you end up enjoying summer school. I always like the laid back nature of it when I taught it.
