We had a very busy 4th of July weekend this year! We started by heading to Iowa for a wedding. My second cousin got married in Ida Grove. We had a fun time seeing family and Jack even did a little dancing (with some bribery)!
We made some yummy food to celebrate too. Earlier in the week, we made 4th of July cookies. We also made homemade mint ice cream. Jack has a mint plant from his grandparents and we picked lots of leaves. We used 1 cup of leaves, heated the whole milk, and let the steep for about two hours. It ended up almost being a little too "minty" so we may try fewer leaves next time. Even with it being t a little minty, it was delicious (especially with chocolate syrup). Bryan made pulled pork sandwiches and smokey baked beans. The perfect summer time meal! And of course, we did lots of playing. We usually have a water fight this time of year, but it was a cool day, so we changed it to a family wiffleball game. So. much. fun!
Of course, we had fireworks with my little firecrackers. We went to the College Home Run derby the night before and saw an awesome fireworks show there. The kids and Bryan bought some fireworks of their own and had our own fun! Our neighbors happened to be hanging out and came over to enjoy the Redemske show too. It was a wonderful weekend filled with family, friends, and fireworks!
