Jack's 7th Birthday Party

We had Jack's 7th Birthday Party last weekend and it was simple, fun, and most importantly, greatly enjoyed by Jack!  Being a Lego fanatic, he wanted a Lego Movie birthday party.  There isn't a lot in stores for a Lego Movie party, so thank goodness for Pinterest and Etsy!  Jack got a few presents on his actual birthday, including a new Lego movie sheet set.  The design is pretty neat!

For his birthday party, he wanted to also have a water fight.  So we bought each kid a super soaker and as it always is here in August, it was the perfect hot weather to get wet!  Even Jacks' Grandpa got in on the fun!

Here is Jack and his Lego cake.  He got a homemade cake this year and I'm pretty proud of my work! The cake is a box mix, but oh so good!  I got it from Target and it was an orange cream Duff brand cake.  So delicious.  I made the Lego minifigures from a mold using candy melts.  I made fondant for the first time too (way easier than I thought it was going to be).  It was a marshmallow fondant and although Jack said he didn't like it, I thought it was better than the loads of frosting you usually get on a cake.  Funny story about the candles... I used a long lighter to light the candles and one of his friends asked why I was using a blow torch!  Ha.

And, of course, Jack was extremely spoiled with the gifts he received.  Even a big rolled up set of bills!  He had been saving his money for over a month and after his birthday bought a Lego Star Wars AT-AT set.

I liked that his party was small and low-key although I spent a long time working on his cake.  It was great to enjoy it with him instead of worrying about major details!   How is it that my boy is seven?!?  Hoping that he finds this to be his best year yet!
