We have started potty training Jack. Our pediatrician recommended that we start around 18 months while Jack is in the "excited to try everything" stage. My original plan was to potty train him this summer while I'm home all the time. But, there's no reason to wait. We got a potty chair that seems to be working well and he's eager to sit on the potty....
Until we "went potty" what seemed like a hundred times this weekend! I read on Classy Chaos about a potty training method that I liked. We started this weekend. Once every hour, Jack sat on the potty. He has not actually gone potty yet, but he knows what it means to sit on the potty. And I was tired of it by the end of the day. I wonder if he was too, because he asked, "All done?" about 10 seconds after sitting down. Then we would entertain him for another 2 minutes while he "went potty."
I haven't read any potty training books yet and am just going off some gut instincts and a little of what I've read on blogs. I know potty training can be controversial much like breastfeeding, so I'm not looking for opinions so much as advice. Got any?
UPDATE: I just spent 45 minutes researching training pants. I just ordered a 15-pack of training pants.... I'm excited again! I'll update after some time with training pants.

No advice. I haven't even started potty training my almost 3 year old. Our pediatrician has a much different approach. He said, "How long did it take you to train Porgie to walk?" I said, "I didn't train her. She did it on her own." And he said, "Using the potty is exactly the same. She will learn, and she will do it on her own when she is ready." Makes since to me. And since I am super lazy, this philosophy is the perfect excuse to continue being lazy:)
But good luck friend! I hope it works out for you.
Obviously, I'm not there yet, so I got nothing...except Amy just told me about her girlfriend using the Elimination Communication technique and Wendy told me she was able to potty train Kaysie in one day after reading a book (Potty Train Your Child in One Day--I think--I can find out for sure if you'd like).
At any rate, best of luck. We'll be "watching" to see how it goes. :)
