I didn't quite look like this lady today, but I was close.... Let me tell you about it.Jack has been sick with pink-eye and a fever all week. Today was my second day this week to stay home with him. Uuugh. Being a parent is tough. Being a teacher/parent is harder. Jack spent the last two days sleeping the day away. Which is good for him and good for us being able to work from home.
But then there was today. He slept in the morning, but then I had to wake him for another doctor's appointment. His pink-eye wasn't getting better and it seemed as if it was actually getting worse. He got an antibiotic and a new round of eye drops. After walking around Target for 20 minutes wasting time, we went back to pick up the medicine. The pharmacist says, "There's no Jack on your insurance." "Oh, that's because that's not his first name." And so we waited for another 10 minutes. It turns out that naming your son one thing and calling him another confuses everybody!
We got home and Jack (kind of) ate lunch. Between screaming fits and throwing food, he maybe got 10 pieces of toast in him. Then it was time for a nap. After about 25 minutes of screaming (done in intervals) he fell asleep. Whew.
But I had a PT appointment at 4:30. Bryan took off work early to meet me there and take over the Jacket. So I had to wake him again from a nap and get him into the car. As the time neared 4:30, I called Bryan to see how far away he was. He was going to be about 5 more minutes. So thinking that I was being responsible, I hauled Jack inside to check in and let them know I was here. I never put Jack down and was very careful with him, because I know how contagious pink-eye is.
The receptionist looked at him and said, "Oh my, does he have pink eye?
"yes."
"I don't know if you'll be able to come back." (At this point, I'm thinking - Of course not, I'll wait until Bryan gets here.)
Then my PT comes out to talk to me.
"Do you have an appointment on Friday?"
"yes."
"We'll just wait to see you then."
"You're not going to see me today?"
"Pink-eye is very contagious and we've had issues with contagious diseases before."
"So even if he goes with my husband and I wash my hands/arms/etc., you can't see me today?"
"No. We'll just wait until Friday."
"I was here on Monday after having stayed home with my contagious son all day and everything was fine."
"We'll see you on Friday."
And with that, we left. I was a little hot under the collar. Had I not taken Jack in with me, they wouldn't have had a clue that my son had pink-eye. I understand the health issue with it. But suddenly I have to waste an appointment because my son has pink-eye. Blah.
And then I had pizza and beer for supper. (Even though I listened to more screeching and saw more food hit the floor).
Please don't think I'm a bad mom. I gave Jack love all day long. He's finally over his fever, his eye is looking better, and a good portion of his irritation might be coming from two more teeth coming in on top. Sometimes a momma' has to rant everyone once in awhile.

NOBODY thinks you're a bad mom, Chris! It is tough when our kids are sick. I completely understand all of your emotions. Oh man -- that PT appointment? I would have been livid.
Glad to hear it's on the downward slope, though. Here's to a better tomorrow. :) And thanks for your comment on my blog -- very good points about the junior high mindset. :)
yeah, no bad mommy accusations. Have another beer and put your feet up while he's asleep. You need your rest cuz he'll be up again before you know it. :)
Why would anyone think you are a bad mom? You're so goofy. Your day sounds like is sucked ass.
Thanks, guys. I felt a lot better after that long post. But I also felt a bit guilty about complaining. :)
