So the last time I updated this lovely blog, it was the middle of February. Hmm... still 3rd quarter in the school year and barely past Valentine's Day. Spring break was right around the corner. In fact, Jack's spring break was a week before mine this year. Daycare was closed a day so Bryan took a day off and had a mini spring break of his own with the kids. We'll start there! :) They had all kinds of fun going out for donuts for breakfast, doing a little walking tour downtown and at the pedestrian bridge, and then flying kites in the afternoon. Maddy had been begging to fly kites for weeks prior, so she was beyond happy!
My spring break was rather uneventful. Jack had school, but I enjoyed getting to take him everyday! We had donuts on St. Patrick's Day, Maddy was sick, and I actually had a teacher workshop to go to at the end of the week. So, I don't even have any pics right at the moment (I know they are somewhere!).
Easter was actually only a week later than our spring break this year. We had several 4-day weeks at school that month. It was glorious! Jack had his first communion this spring (which coincides with Maundy Thursday). He went to first communion classes for a few weeks and participated in a Seder Meal. It was a great experience!
Here are some pics of our Easter (and pre-Easter) celebrations! We took the kids to an Easter Egg Hunt (and fun day) at the community center/library. The cousins got some quality play time together and we even snapped a few fun pics on Palm Sunday.
These pics turned out cute of the kids... good thing, because actual Easter pictures were a different story. Ha!
Easter Egg hunt at our house: Jack utilized his baseball glove for prime egg picking. Jack got a Lego Dimensions pack along with usual Easter candy from the Easter bunny (Lego Dimensions is his jam right now)! Maddy got a Paw Patrol Skye helicopter, which she had been asking for for what seems like ages! We also made cute little fingerprint Easter cards for the grandparents too.
Easter Sunday -- We got a great family pic right away and then things went sideways with our Miss Madelyn. Notice the Papa pic is missing a kid?!? Well... Maddy refused to take pics (something about me asking her to put her shoes on). She is a stubborn one! Bryan took a pic of me trying to take a pic (notice her head is down). Bryan finally slowly coaxed her from under the dining room table to standing to actually smiling (see the pic in the bottom right hand corner)! I was NOT amused at the time, but it's funny to see the sequence of pictures now! We were so blessed to have a beautiful time with family.
After Easter, April was upon us and things were chugging right along. At school, we were starting to count down the weeks left in the year, the kids had just taken the state math test (after having already taken the state reading test), when...
Bryan broke his hip. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time and the wind got the best of their Wednesday night ride. Things kind of came to a screeching halt for us. He had surgery the following day and had three screws (as you can see) placed into his left hip. We were told by the surgeon that he would be on crutches and without driving privileges for eight weeks. Aaaaagh! Thankfully, we had lots of family and friends that stepped up to help mow the lawn, pick up the kids once a week (so I could continue my after school robotics club), and generally give us support! The driving and crutches time ended up being a lot less than originally projected too. He healed up much more quickly than expected - yay!
This is a mish-mash (and not in order) of things following Bryan's broken hip. For a bit, I felt like the saying "When it rains, it pours!" Although it ended up not being a big deal, added on to the stress of our bit of family upheavel, things started breaking around the house, then we got hit by a nasty hail storm! Bryan's parents came to help out right after his accident and they got Maddy a strawberry plant. To say that she loves strawberries is an understatement... she loooooooves them! She was so darn proud of that plant. And promptly about a week later, it was destroyed by hail. Along with most of the plants that I had just spent a day planting. I kid you not, I cried at 3:30 a.m. watching the hail destroy everything! (I may have been a bit overstressed at that moment! Yeah, I'll blame it on that.) The top three pics are cards from Mother's Day and my two little munchkins keeping things exciting!
It was a wild ride of a spring, but we are all happy and healthy (mostly - ha!) and hopefully came out of it with a brighter perspective. More to come about the end of the school year!
