This was Jack's third season of playing baseball, but his first playing kid pitch. Basically, the kids are now pitching, but there are no walks. If four balls are thrown, a coach comes in and pitches. BUT the kids can strike out. Jack has grown so much since he first started baseball and I love watching him play. He didn't really like playing outfield ("it was boring") and his favorite position this year was when he got to be the catcher. However, he had a problem with standing up too soon after the pitch was thrown and made my heart jump! I kept envisioning him getting hit by the bat! His favorite play was one where his friend Braden picked up the ball at 2nd, threw it to Jack at first base, and he made the out! Early in the season, Jack made an out at third base and jumped around, squealed, and pumped his fist in the air afterward. Wish I would have captured a picture of that. Too cute!
Jack's strength was hitting this season with several solid hits to get on base. He's a pretty fast runner and enjoyed scoring a few runs. My favorite memory is the day he declared in the car on the way to the game that he was going to "just keep running and that was how he would get a homerun." Well, he definitely tried to just run and run and run, but eventually he got sent back to 2nd because you can't do that in Farm 7 baseball. :) He did get hit a few times with pitches this season and I happened to catch one on camera too. See the first pic! Poor boy. He was usually able to shake it off pretty quickly!
The three years that Jack has played, Bryan was able to be an assistant coach and Jack loves having him there! He has really been blessed with great coaches, supportive teammates, and good parent support too. Nothing really beats having a great team! Jack also knew some of his teammates this year prior to the season, so that was fun for him too.
Maddy was Jack's biggest fan and also got to spend countless hours at the ball park. She's quickly learning the rules of the game and even started insisting on wearing Jack's old hat to every game! She also liked wearing her Cubs t-shirt on game days too. Popsicles were a favorite treat when it got hot and on the final day, she got to help Daddy plug the bases. She's going to be playing so soon!
