Weekend Getaway

We got away last weekend for a short little trip to Des Moines that was much needed by all of us!  The trip started because we wanted to take Jack to a set of Lego sculpture displays at Reiman Gardens in Ames.  As we started looking at weekends for the trip, the one that worked also happened to be the weekend of a cyclocross race in Des Moines and of course, Bryan couldn't resist.  Bryan's race was Saturday afternoon and the weather was pretty gorgeous!

It was a beautiful day to get the camera out!

Bryan during his race.  Cyclocross is definitely fun to watch!

Maddie trying out the cowbell.  She wasn't sure about her own skills!

Look at her two little teeth!

Just putting my feet up and enjoying a snack!

Go Daddy, Go!

We stayed in a hotel Saturday night in downtown Des Moines and while waiting to meet Bryan's parents in Ames for lunch, we made a quick stop to the Iowa Capitol Building.  It was a perfect morning to walk around and enjoy the scenery!

After lunch, we headed to Reiman Gardens at Iowa State University.  The Lego sculptures were pretty impressive!
A mere 37,000 Lego bricks!

Jack and Papa Chuck

Jack really enjoyed reading the map with Grandma Linda to find all the sculptures.

We even managed to capture a family photo in front of the Lego hummingbird.
Although we didn't get home until Sunday evening and everyone was quite tired, it was definitely worth it.  We had a wonderful family weekend!!!
